Support for Ministry of Foreign Affairs in publishing fact sheet on US interference

25 September 2021

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the People’s Republic of China yesterday published the “Facts Sheet: US Interference in Hong Kong Affairs and Support for Anti-China, Destabilising Forces”, which sets out the facts and evidence to prove that the US has grossly interfered in Hong Kong’s affairs and intervened to support anti-China, destabilising forces. I fully support the MFA’s approach of publishing the fact sheet to sternly denounce the hegemonic acts of the US.

The international community and Hong Kong citizens can see clearly from the facts sheet that the US has sought to attack our country for its own political interests, violated international laws, interfered in Hong Kong’s internal affairs, and attempted to intimidate officials of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government with its so-called sanctions. Such malicious attempts will not succeed. Rather than being intimidated, Hong Kong officials will hold on more steadfastly to their stance.

China will not allow the US to succeed in seeking its interests either. Through the enactment of the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the HKSAR (National Security Law) followed by the improvements to our electoral system, our country has ensured the long-term stability and prosperity of our city. The National Security Law has closed the loopholes in safeguarding national security in Hong Kong by effectively preventing, suppressing and punishing for acts endangering national security, thereby restoring security and stability in Hong Kong. With improvements to our electoral system and implementation of the “patriots administering Hong Kong” principle, foreign proxies are prevented from entering our governance system and jeopardising the interests of Hong Kong and the country. Restoring order from chaos, Hong Kong has unveiled a new chapter of development towards greater prosperity.

With opportunities arising from the National 14th Five-Year Plan, the Greater Bay Area development and the Qianhai Plan, Hong Kong will see boundless prospects for further development and regain its glamour as the “Pearl of the Orient”.
